Western Canadian Youth & Family Addictions Conference - January 28 – 30, 2009
by Jamie Billingham - Wednesday, July 30 2008, 04:05 PM
Western Canadian Youth & Family Addictions Conference will be a forum for youth and family service providers, researchers, policy and decision makers to come together to explore best and promising practices in addictions.  The conference is scheduled for January 28 – 30, 2009 in Vancouver at the Renaissance Vancouver Hotel Harbourside.

Originally we had planned to open registration today, the 30th of July, but due to some last minute conference programme enhancements a small amount of time is needed to secure detailed session information and confirm presenters.  Over the next two weeks we will be finalizing all aspects of the programme with a revised release date of August 18th and registration will open at that time as well.  Your understanding with this delay is appreciated.

Social Media Starter Kit for Nonprofits
by Jamie Billingham - Thursday, July 10 2008, 12:08 PM

http://www.wearemedia.org/

The We Are Media Project is a community of people from nonprofits who are interested in learning and teaching about how social media strategies and tools can enable nonprofit organizations to create, compile, and distribute their stories and change the world.

Curated by NTEN, the community will work in a networked way to help identify the best existing resources, people, and case studies that will give nonprofit organizations the knowledge and resources they need to be the media. The community will help identify and point to the best how-to guides and useful resources that cover all aspects of creating, aggregating, and distributing social media. The resulting curriculum which will live on this wiki and will also cover important organizational adoption issues, strategy, ROI analysis, as well as the tools.

Ultimately, we hope to build this wiki and community into the "go-to place" for vetted resources about social media strategies and nonprofits for individuals who work for or with nonprofits and need practical advice about getting started or to quickly access best practices, examples, or experience from other practitioners working in nonprofits.

Vancouver Foundation’s Vital Signs
by Jamie Billingham - Monday, June 2 2008, 09:54 PM
Vancouver Foundation’s Vital Signs report for 2008 is underway and we need your help…

Each year, we ask Metro Vancouver citizens to grade their region on factors that contribute to overall wellness and liveability. This year, we are hoping to significantly increase the number of citizen graders, to better reflect the diversity and scope of this area we call home.

Please help us with two things (each will take only a couple of minutes):

Register to be a citizen grader by June 13, 2008

To register, visit our website - www.vancouverfoundationvitalsigns.ca. Once you’ve registered, you will receive your survey sometime in June.

Forward this e-mail

Please forward this e-mail to your organization, colleagues, friends, networks and anyone else you think might be interested in being a citizen grader for Vital Signs.

We also ask you to post this information on your website, intranet, or any other ‘portal’ that will help us significantly increase our number of citizen graders. If you need assistance or materials please contact Stephanie Chatterton at stephaniec@vancouverfoundation.ca. We’ve created a variety of advertisements and banners that may be useful.

The responses from our citizen grading panel will become part of Vancouver Foundation’s Vital Signs for Metro Vancouver – our annual survey of life in the region, where we examine everything from transportation, learning, and housing, to diversity, culture, and the environment.

Thank you for your valued help with this important project. Your participation will help make Vital Signs 2008 a success!

Vitally yours,

Faye
FREE PUBLIC WORKSHOP: Communicating Restoratively in Conflict

FREE PUBLIC WORKSHOP:
Communicating Restoratively in Conflict

Fraser Region Community Justice Initiatives (CJI) has partnered with Envision Financial to present a series of free public events addressing issues affecting our community.

Everyone is invited to come to this free workshop facilitated by Restorative Justice practitioner, Catherine Bargen.

Admission is FREE!
(donations accepted)

Do you feel stuck when you face conflict at home, at work or in your relationships? Get unstuck! Learn practical skills to navigate through conflict to more meaningful interactions with others, even when things feel tough.

When things go wrong in communities, schools, workplaces and in our relationships, we want things worked out in a way that satisfies everybody’s needs and brings meaningful closure. However, often when we’re involved in conflict, we don’t take the time to listen. We are intent on making our point, or are feeling too hurt to hear what the other person has to say. Our relationships suffer and so does our enjoyment of life!

A healthier approach to conflict brings understanding and a sense of justice—Restorative Justice—into our interactions with others. Restorative Justice is a philosophy about repairing harm, listening to one another and speaking from the heart. Listening to others, as well as expressing your own needs, allows people in conflict to share and come to mutually agreed-upon resolutions.

In this workshop, learn a basic understanding of:
• what happens in conflict
• why we often feel "stuck" in conflict situations
• how Restorative Justice relates to conflict
• how to resolve difficult situations respectfully
• how to work to preserve relationships and meet
the needs of all involved

A Restorative approach to conflict resolution encourages us to shift from judgment to curiosity, and helps us effectively explore the root causes of our conflicts.

Please join us at this free workshop that is part of our "Inviting Dialogue" public event series. No RSVP required!
